What Is My Cash App Account ID? Where to Find It (and Which Number You Need)

what is my cash app account id
Heads up: I'm not a financial advisor. This article shares personal experience for educational purposes only — consult a qualified professional before acting on anything here.

Short answer: Cash App doesn’t have a separate “account ID”. When someone asks for it, they mean one of three things: your $Cashtag (to send you money in the app), your account and routing number (for direct deposit or bank transfers), or, rarely, your Cash App Card number. Which one depends on who’s asking.

I got asked for my “Cash App ID” three different ways in one month: by a friend splitting a bill, by my employer’s payroll form, and by a website at checkout. Each wanted a different number. Here’s how to tell them apart.

Which “account ID” do they want?

How to find your $Cashtag

  1. Open Cash App.
  2. Tap the profile icon on the home screen.
  3. Your $Cashtag is shown under your name. That’s what people type to send you money.

Your $Cashtag is meant to be shared. It lets people pay you, not take money out.

How to find your account and routing number

  1. Open Cash App and tap the Money tab.
  2. Tap your Cash balance.
  3. Your account number and routing number are listed there. Copy them exactly into the payroll or benefits form.

Cash App says you need a Cash App Card before you can use these numbers for direct deposit, so order the card first if you don’t have one. Your routing number depends on which of Cash App’s partner banks holds your account, so use the one in your app rather than one you’ve seen online. If a form calls it a “bank identification code”, it still wants these numbers; I explain why in what the Cash App bank identification code really is.

What never to share

  • Your sign-in code or PIN. No one paying you needs it, and anyone asking for it is trying to get into your account.
  • Your full card number with anyone who just wants to send you money. Your $Cashtag is enough for that.
  • Your account and routing number with strangers. They’re for employers, government agencies and your own bank links.

The rest of the setup

If you’re setting up Cash App for the first time, or switching your paycheck to it, my full guide walks through every step, from verifying your identity to linking a bank and setting up direct deposit: how to link Cash App to a bank account or card.
